Dr. Johnson is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee reconstruction and orthopaedic oncology. His practice spans primary joint replacement, complex revision surgery, prosthetic joint infection, severe bone loss, custom reconstruction, and the treatment of benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumors. Whether a patient is considering a first joint replacement, needs a failed implant reconstructed, or is facing a complex musculoskeletal tumor, his goal is the same: restore mobility, preserve function, relieve pain, and improve quality of life.

In adult reconstruction, Dr. Johnson has developed particular expertise in muscle-sparing direct anterior hip replacement and complex anterior revision surgery. He performs navigation-assisted hip replacement, robotic-assisted total and partial knee replacement, and muscle-sparing subvastus knee replacement. His experience extends to patients with failed joint replacements, prosthetic joint infection, periprosthetic fractures, severe acetabular and femoral bone loss, and pelvic discontinuity, including reconstructions that require custom or patient-specific implants.

Dr. Johnson also treats bone and soft tissue sarcomas, skeletal metastatic disease, and benign bone and soft tissue tumors, with expertise in limb-salvage surgery, megaprosthetic reconstruction, and complex pelvic reconstruction. As Chair of the Orthopaedic Oncology and Sarcoma Care Team at the Parkview Packnett Family Cancer Institute, he works alongside medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, rehabilitation, and other specialists. A dedicated research and clinical trials team supports the program and gives patients access to emerging therapies. This integrated approach provides comprehensive care from diagnosis and treatment planning through reconstruction, recovery, and long-term follow-up.

Dr. Johnson serves as President of Orthopaedics Northeast, Founder and Director of the Ortho Northeast Research Institute, and Founder and Co-Director of the Ortho Northeast Adult Reconstruction Fellowship. Through the Research Institute, he collaborates with physicians, scientists, engineers, universities, and industry partners. That work covers clinical trials and outcomes research, artificial intelligence, health systems informatics, implant design, computer-assisted surgery, digital health, and prosthetic joint infection research, including biofilm and genomic sequencing. A dedicated clinical data and analytics team supports outcomes tracking and participation in national registries to benchmark results and continually improve patient care.

Dr. Johnson completed medical school and orthopaedic surgery residency at Michigan State University and a fellowship in orthopaedic oncology at the University of Washington in Seattle. Committed to training future surgeons, he leads a fellowship that provides advanced training in primary and revision hip and knee reconstruction, complex reconstruction, surgical technology, research, and multidisciplinary care. He has published in peer-reviewed journals, presented at regional, national, and international meetings, and is a member of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society, Connective Tissue Oncology Society, and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Johnson believes successful care begins with listening and informed shared decision-making. He grounds treatment in the best available evidence, clinical experience, and each patient's priorities. Not every orthopaedic problem requires surgery. When surgery is appropriate, he chooses the most effective approach while staying committed to safety, precision, and long-term outcomes.

Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three sons, traveling, cooking, music, sports, and the outdoors. Those experiences reinforce his belief that restoring mobility is about helping people return to the family, work, hobbies, and activities that matter most to them.
