Meet Dr. Via
Dr. Via joined the TraumaONE team in 2026. He specializes in caring for adults and children with traumatic injuries, including complex fractures of the pelvis and hip socket (acetabulum), fractures that have not healed or have healed incorrectly (nonunion/malunion), and joint replacement (arthroplasty) following serious injuries. His joint replacement expertise includes the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee.
Dr. Via was drawn to orthopaedic trauma by the tremendous variety of the specialty and the opportunity to care for patients of all ages with injuries from head to toe. He enjoys the challenge of treating complex injuries while developing a treatment plan tailored to each patient and their goals. One of the most rewarding aspects of his work is meeting patients at a pivotal moment in their lives and having the privilege of caring for them throughout their recovery. Whether that recovery takes weeks, months, or longer, his goal is to help patients regain their function and return to the activities that are important to them.
Originally from Geneva, Ohio, Dr. Via earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, with minors in Biology and Statistics. He attended The Ohio State University College of Medicine before completing his orthopaedic surgery residency at Wright State University / Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. His residency training included an additional year dedicated to orthopaedic research. He then completed his orthopaedic trauma fellowship at Reno Orthopedic Center (ROC) in Reno, Nevada, with additional training in pediatric trauma and joint replacement for fractures. During fellowship, Dr. Via also traveled to Honduras with One World Surgery, where he provided volunteer orthopaedic care to patients with traumatic injuries, nonunions, and malunions.
Dr. Via and his wife, Colleen, are excited to make Fort Wayne their home and become part of the community. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys golfing, skiing, hiking, home renovation projects, and working on his vehicles. He is an avid NASCAR fan and also enjoys baking, grilling, and listening to EDM, classic rock, and ’90s country.
