Adult Reconstruction

2024-2025

Dr. Roy Small is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction with a particular focus on advanced, robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement surgery. He uses this technology for both primary and complex revision procedures to help patients return to their highest level of function.

He also incorporates 3D imaging and functional alignment techniques to personalize each joint replacement and better restore a patient’s native anatomy — all with the goal of less pain, a faster recovery, and long-lasting results.

Dr. Small grew up in a small town in mid-Michigan, where he met his wife, Jacquelyn. He worked on a farm throughout high school and played multiple sports, experiences that shaped his strong work ethic and his appreciation for helping people stay active. He completed his undergraduate and medical degrees at Michigan State University, graduating among the top of his class. He served as Chief Resident and President of the Graduate Medical Education Resident Council during his orthopedic surgery residency in metro Detroit, before completing a fellowship in adult reconstruction at Orthopaedics Northeast. During fellowship, he also completed a two-week surgical rotation in Germany to gain an international perspective on complex joint replacement techniques.

Dr. Small is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics (AOAO), and American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS). He attends national conferences regularly and has published articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, visiting national parks, woodworking, off-roading, and spending time with family.
